Reality is confused, and the future is vague, but the world is still quite possible to turn it upside down … The Initiative did not try to write the plot narrative from scratch – the story largely relies on the ideas of science fiction classics like Clark, Wells or Asimov: the familiar carelessness of earthlings, endless wars and unwillingness to act together.
Many problems have disappeared – like the lack of medicines – but new ones have appeared – poverty, thirst and hunger. Developers have moved the events to the near future – cars do not fly in the sky yet, and the plot does not resemble another improvisation on the theme of the “Fifth Element”, but space is already being explored by earthlings, and the planet has long been in the agony of war: corporations share power, rulers unleash World War III, and the inhabitants are trying to interrupt with technology and running out of supplies. Perfect Dark is a fast-paced, Hollywood-style first-person shooter with flowery storytelling and intense gameplay with uncompromising gunfights and frequent gear and tool changes.
